I like the top version very much - I think some of that sunset orange would be rim-lighting the back edges of the wooden planks on the walkway and the ropes and the hand-rails - I'd like to see you create a new layer, colour pick from the red and then use it to add some highlights to make some of your detail's pop a bit... check out this example:

Agreed. Some strong stuff going on here Jack. Rim lighting will really start to help shape the image.
