    Hi Jack,

I like the quick and immediate way you've worked up some thumbnails in response to Nevelson's work, though without your travelogue and without the influence map etc. your engagement with Nevelson herself appears to be a bit superficial. I've included this useful link:

    http://www.theartstory.org/artist-nevelson-louise.htm

The 'What If?' of the project title refers to 'What If?' Nevelson was an architect, not 'What If buildings were formed from Nevelson's existing artworks. The first question challenges the student to understand the principles and processes underlying their collaborator's work and then apply them to a fresh design project - i.e. the design of original structures, spaces and places. Right now, you've produced some nicely composed silhouettes, but I'm left wondering how 'Nevelson' they are? What I suggest you do is produce a word stack or similar in which you gather in all the key associations that align with Nevelson - for example, the little reading I've done tells me that her use of found objects being brought together was a way of her talking about her own jumbled up, fragmented childhood - her Russian/American culture shock, you might say. If Nevelson was designing a building, might she not apply this 'mis-match' or 'found object' idea of its design, perhaps colliding lots of different styles together, but united by a single colour or similar?

So you need to ask what sort of world would Nevelson build and how would her foundational principles be reflected accordingly? In a way, working with collaged elements to create thumbnails is a very Nevelson-thing to do, but less so if you're collaging elements of her own work together. Developing forms by assembling silhouettes of the ordinary objects she used would be more 'as Nevelson does' and thereby more truly design-led. Does that make sense?
